Located in Balboa Park in San Diego, School in the Park offers City Heights students immersive, hands-on learning environment outside the traditional classroom. Throughout the school year, third, fourth, and fifth grade students from select City Heights schools spend about 20% of their time of the school year at various museums and institutions. Middle school students spend two weeks of their school year in the park.

Museum Educators, working in conjunction with classroom teachers and facilitators, provide standards-based instruction with a focus on experiential learning. This approach empowers students to take charge of their learning, equipping them with essential skills and traits for success in both academics and life beyond the classroom.
School in the Park is more than just an educational program. It pushes the boundaries of traditional education by reimagining where and how learning takes place, shaping new aspirations and perspectives, and inspiring students to dream new dreams.

Cultivating curiosity, competence, confidence and character in City Heights’ students through experiential learning opportunities within Balboa Park’s dynamic cultural institutions.
